AOC Threatens To Subpoena Chief Justice John Roberts

During an appearance on CNN, far-left Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) threatened Supreme Court Justice John Roberts over supposed “conflicts of interest” — demanding that Congress consider subpoenaing the chief justice to testify before Congress about ethics issues.

Ocasio-Cortez claimed during the interview that the Democrat-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee has already begun “the process of investigating the entanglements and conflicts of interest.”

“I believe that if Chief John Roberts will not come before Congress for an investigation voluntarily, I believe that we should be considering subpoenas,” the Democrat congresswoman later added.

In early May, Roberts declined an invitation to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee about ethics and possible reforms of the Supreme Court. Democrats were unable to issue a subpoena at the time because elderly Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) was on medical leave — which made it impossible for Democrats to have a majority to overcome GOP opposition to the subpoena.

While Democrats have been attacking the integrity of the Supreme Court over the past few years after former President Donald Trump was able to appoint three conservative justices, they were previously supportive of the high court when it was issuing rulings in their favor. Since the Supreme Court flipped to a conservative majority, there have been several decisions in favor of conservatives — including the overturning of Roe v. Wade in June of last year and the recent ruling ending affirmative action.

In response to these rulings, Democrats like Ocasio-Cortez have called for so-called “judicial reforms” such as packing the court and implementing term limits. They are also attempting to smear the individual conservative justices, including Roberts and Justice Clarence Thomas.

Citing concerns about Thomas and another conservative on the Supreme Court, Justice Samuel Alito, Ocasio-Cortez claimed that Congress needed to “pass much more binding and stringent ethics guidelines.”

“There also must be impeachment on the table,” she added. “We have a broad level of tools to deal with misconduct, overreach, and abuse of power. And the Supreme Court has not been receiving the adequate oversight necessary in order to preserve their own legitimacy. And, in the process, they themselves have been destroying the legitimacy of the court, which is profoundly dangerous for our entire democracy.”

“The courts, if they were to proceed without any check on their power, without any balance on their power, then we will start to see an undemocratic and, frankly, dangerous authoritarian expansion of power in the Supreme Court,” Ocasio-Cortez claimed, adding, “which is what we are seeing now, from the overturning of abortion rights, to the ruling that discrimination and, frankly, stripping the full personhood and dignity of LGBTQ people in the United States.”

“These are the types of rulings that signal a dangerous creep towards authoritarianism and centralization of power in the court,” she continued.
