A Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua (TdA), has reportedly taken over an apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado, causing widespread fear among residents and prompting city officials to take action. The gang, which has roots in Venezuelan prisons, has expanded its operations to the U.S., making Aurora one of its latest targets.
The Edge apartment complex at 1568 Nome St., near Colfax and Peoria, has become a base of operations for TdA. Videos circulating on social media show gang members armed with firearms as they move through the complex, creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. Cindy Romero, a resident, described her experience living at The Edge as a “nightmare,” saying she and her husband had to take extreme security measures just to feel safe.
In response, the city of Aurora has cited multiple code violations at the complex and is working to close it down. CBZ Management, the company that operates The Edge, has expressed frustration, stating that the gang’s presence has made it impossible to perform necessary maintenance and repairs.
The Aurora Police Department has acknowledged the gang’s presence but described their influence as “isolated.” However, residents believe the danger is widespread and that their lives are at risk daily. TdA is known for its involvement in violent crimes such as human trafficking, drug smuggling, and extortion, activities that have now spread to Aurora.
City Council member Danielle Jurinsky has spoken out against the lack of support for residents, emphasizing that while assistance is available for migrants, American citizens are left without help in these dangerous situations.
The ongoing crisis at The Edge apartment complex underscores the growing influence of transnational criminal organizations in local communities and the urgent need for stronger measures to protect residents.
