Congressman Left Speechless By One Abortion Question

The House Judiciary Committee held a hearing on “abortion access and care” with testimony from a pro-life organization and members of the House of Representatives. One congressman was given the opportunity to explain his position on abortion when it related to victims, but didn’t do so well.

The first issue of the hearing was an abortion ban for victims of rape and incest. Less than 1.5% of abortions account for rape and incest. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) proves that the pro-choice argument isn’t about victims, but unlimited access to abortion.

Raskin ultimately regrets the decision to discuss nationwide abortion bans with Americans United for Life President and CEO Catherine Glenn Foster, and was left with no response when Foster fired back.

Raskin said, “The GOP witness is calling for a nationwide ban on abortions with no exceptions for rape and incest. And if I’ve got that wrong, I would invite Ms. Foster to correct me. Do I have it wrong, yes or no?” Foster responded, “If we added rape and incest exceptions, would you vote for it?” Hearing this, Raskin pulled back and reclaimed his time.

The reason Raskin can’t answer the question is because he would have to admit that he wants abortions for any reason, not just for outlier cases like rape. Democrats dodge these types of discussions because they want to manipulate the compassion of their voters. If they can get people to truly believe that the GOP wants to ban abortion for victims, then they can gain support from people who otherwise would be against pro-choice policies.

Plenty of discussions can be had for providing abortions for specific medical circumstances, but Raskin didn’t want to talk about it because that’s not the goal. If rape and incest was relevant to Raskin’s point, then he would have had no problem discussing the issue. But he knows that his constituents are wildly pro-choice.

Democrats are going to the well, focusing in on an outlier to mischaracterize the reality of the situation. There are doctors performing abortions right up to the moment of birth, and recent reports suggest that some “doctors” are performing them after that moment.

The fact is that Democrats are distracting from the main issue by creating any excuse they can to paint an American tragedy, hopefully about to end, as anything but what it really is.
