Democrats Blame Committee Removals On Holding Trump Accountable

Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) falsely claimed that the reason they were removed from their committees was that they tried to hold former President Donald Trump accountable.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) removed Schiff and Swalwell from the House Intelligence Committee and he removed Rep. Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee.

In response, Omar referred to her removal as a means of “appeasing Trump.”

The congresswoman stated:

“When I was running for the Minnesota House seat, and Trump was running for president, he came to Minnesota and talked about how Somali refugees should not enter our state … Marjorie Taylor Greene, after I got sworn in, was in Congress talking about Muslim invasion. When you think about Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell, these are two people who have led the impeachment efforts against Trump, who he also singled out. If you think about how these people have been vengeful, this sort of revenge and picking the three of us makes sense.”

On MSNBC, Swalwell stated that Speaker McCarthy came after him and his colleagues for refusing to back down against Trump. “We were fearless in our resolve to hold Donald Trump accountable,” he said.

Moreover, Schiff posted a video on TikTok to complain about his removal from the House Intelligence Committee. The congressman claimed that the House speaker removed him from his committee for “holding Trump accountable.”

The White House has supported the members of Congress who have been kicked off the committees.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre took issue with McCarthy blocking the Reps., from the committees.

Jean-Pierre mentioned that the members “bring a lot to the table when it comes to foreign policy and national security.”

“We’ll say that when it comes to that committee, it should not be politicized, it should be independent. And again, those congressional members bring a lot of expertise to that committee, and I’ll leave it there,” she added.

Speaker McCarthy has rejected House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’ (D-NY) request to appoint Schiff and Swalwell on the Intelligence Committee.

The California speaker accused Schiff of lying to the public about Trump’s ties to Russia. He has also cited Rep. Swalwell’s relationship with a Chinese spy as being a national security risk.
