Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents reported that 15 illegal aliens were apprehended last month at the Mexican border who are named on the FBI terrorist watchlist.
May saw more than 239,000 illegal migrant arrests, setting a new record during the Biden administration. The number of persons apprehended who appear on the terror watchlist is also a monthly record. Illegal migrant encounters reported for the current fiscal year have now gone past 1.5 million.
The CBP Office of Field Operations reported that the current fiscal year has seen CBP apprehend 50 persons who appear on the terror list.
Author Todd Bensman told reporters that the overarching concern is that with the massive numbers of migrants flooding across the southern border, the assumption must be that some people on the terror watchlist are getting inside the country. Bensman’s book “America’s Covert Border War” goes into detail about how terrorists exploit the weaknesses present in U.S. border security.
President Donald Trump’s chief of CBP Mark Morgan said that Joe Biden’s open border policies give him concern that the next major terror attack perpetrator is already inside the country.
The Biden administration has downplayed the dangers presented by illegal migrants who appear on the watchlist. Former Press Secretary Jen Psaki said last month that the Department of Homeland Security has played the leading role in protecting Americans from domestic attacks when pressed by Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy.
Doocy asked Psaki if Biden is more concerned with stopping terror attacks inside the country or letting migrants cross over in record numbers.
Psaki said that when the number of persons appearing on the terrorist watchlist being apprehended goes up, it is proof of the “Border Patrol doing their jobs.” She added that it indicates “the system is working” and that the DHS is keeping the American people safe.
Rep. John Katko (R-NY) has warned that Middle Eastern terrorist organizations like al-Qaeda will “metastasize” since the Taliban has retaken Afghanistan following Biden’s disastrous withdrawal of U.S. military forces there last summer.
Katko said the situation is very dangerous because of the combination of Taliban resurgence and the open southern border. He said that it is clear that Biden does not listen to military advisors and has been “defiant as hell about his decision,” even though it is leading to an imminently increased threat inside the U.S.
