Investigation Unveils Abusive Behavior By AFGE Vice President Jeremy Lannan

Jeremy A. Lannan, National Vice President for Women and Fair Practices at the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), has been accused of creating a hostile work environment, according to an investigation by the Potomac Law Group. The probe revealed that Lannan, who is responsible for promoting workers’ rights, engaged in behavior that belittled and intimidated his employees.

Lannan, who has held his position since 2018, was found to have overseen a workplace where employees felt demeaned and fearful. The investigation was initiated after two employees filed complaints about Lannan’s leadership. The findings indicated that turnover among his staff was exceptionally high, with several employees seeking therapy due to the stress caused by his management style.

One of Lannan’s executive assistants described his leadership as oppressive, saying he managed through fear and intimidation. She reported significant distress, affecting her ability to eat and sleep. Another employee likened Lannan to a “Jekyll or Hyde,” describing his behavior as unpredictable and combative, with frequent outbursts that led her to seek therapy.

AFGE National Vice President Arnold Scott charged Lannan with violating the union’s constitution by bullying and creating a hostile work environment. Scott recommended Lannan’s removal, citing the legal liability his conduct could pose for AFGE. “These charges are so serious that removal should be the penalty because of the legal liability that AFGE could face. There needs to be a clear message sent that this type of conduct will not be tolerated by officers of AFGE,” Scott stated.

Despite these serious allegations, Lannan continues to deny any wrongdoing and has claimed that the investigation is biased against him due to his sexual orientation. Lannan remains listed as a top leader on the AFGE website and is running for president of the union in its upcoming election. The findings have raised significant concerns about the leadership and accountability within the union, calling into question its commitment to protecting the rights of its members.
