Michigan’s Secretary Of State Benson Threatens Action Against Non-Compliant Election Officials

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, a vocal figure on the left, has issued a blunt warning to local election officials: certify the results or face legal consequences. In a recent video produced in partnership with The Recount, Benson threatened election officials in Michigan, a critical swing state.

Benson’s message was unambiguous: “If someone were to violate the law and not certify the election at the local level, we will come for you.” This statement underscores Benson’s aggressive approach to enforcing election laws, leaving little room for negotiation or discretion on the part of local officials.

State Sen. Jim Runestad (R) responded by highlighting the legal process in place for uncertified election results. Runestad explained that Michigan law allows the state board of canvassers to investigate and make necessary determinations if local boards fail to certify. This process ensures that corrections can be made without resorting to immediate punitive measures.

Benson also addressed what she termed “misinformation” about the election process, urging residents to report any such cases to a state-controlled email address. Critics argue that Benson’s use of the term “misinformation” may be an attempt to stifle dissent and control the narrative, especially in a state as politically significant as Michigan.

As Michigan gears up for future elections, Benson’s hardline stance could deepen divisions in the state. Her threats against local officials may lead to increased tensions and challenges in a state where every vote can make a difference.
