New Orleans Terror Cell Investigation Intensifies After Attack

Federal authorities are investigating a suspected terror cell after a deadly New Year’s attack in New Orleans. Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, was identified as the perpetrator in the assault that killed 10 and injured 30 in the French Quarter.

Jabbar’s vehicle contained firearms and improvised explosive devices concealed in coolers, wired for remote activation. An ISIS flag was also discovered, linking Jabbar to extremist ideologies. Surveillance video shows three men and a woman placing bombs in the area before the attack.

FBI officials believe Jabbar was part of a coordinated effort and have launched a manhunt for his associates. FBI Assistant Special Agent Alethea Duncan called for public cooperation, emphasizing the likelihood of additional suspects.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) stated that the FBI is “trying to catch the other bad guys,” while Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry confirmed the suspects are actively being pursued. Investigators have highlighted the potential threat posed by the broader cell.

Agents searched the home of Jabbar’s ex-wife, whose current husband reported that Jabbar became increasingly unstable during his conversion to Islam. Authorities are examining potential links between Jabbar and ISIS operatives.

The FBI Hostage Rescue Team is now involved, with flight tracker data showing the unit’s aircraft headed to New Orleans to assist in the search for additional suspects.
