NYC Mayor Complains Cities ‘Overwhelmed’ By Illegal Immigration

New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) is once again complaining about the consequences of open border policies that he supports — warning in a recent press conference that the massive influx of illegal aliens into major cities is “not sustainable.”

During the press conference, the Democrat mayor explained that illegal aliens have been arriving in New York City more quickly — increasing from roughly 2,400 people per week to 4,000 people per week. Adams claimed that the massive numbers of illegal aliens flocking to major cities across the U.S. have “overwhelmed” the cities.

“I’m happy that my colleagues across the country are joining this chorus that I have been singing that it is not sustainable,” he said. “I want to be honest with New Yorkers. You’re going to see the visual of running out of room. It’s not if, it’s when. People are going to be sleeping on our streets.”

“These mayors, my colleagues across America, are doing the best they can, but it’s clear that all of these cities are overwhelmed,” Adams added, referring to other major cities like Chicago, which was forced to pass a $51 million funding package to provide food and housing for illegal aliens.

Adams then pointed out that New York City currently has “more than 126,000 migrants, close to 127,000 that have come through our care since last spring.”

“We have more than 118,000 total people in our care and out of that number, 64,000, a little over 64,000 are migrants,” he added, referring to the city’s shelters.
Meanwhile, actual border states and towns have experienced a significantly worse influx of illegal aliens — which has never been a problem for Democrats like Adams until the issue landed on their doorstep.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) made this point in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter — responding to a previous statement from Adams that illegal immigration will “destroy New York City.”

“Mayor Adams, your party has had no problem destroying Texas with illegal immigration for years. If you actually care, demand that Joe Biden stop auctioning off the border wall and start enforcing the law,” Cruz wrote.

However, the problem in New York City has gotten so bad that Adams even spoke out about it during a trip to Mexico, Ecuador and Colombia — warning potential illegal aliens that “there is no more room in New York” and that “Our hearts are endless, but our resources are not.”

New York City residents are also frustrated over the illegal immigration crisis, as they have been protesting the issue across the city — including a massive rally in Queens earlier this year where protesters chanted “close the border.”
