Republicans and Democrats Oppose End of Title 42

Even the Democrat party is getting fed up with the southern border crisis and some have joined Republicans on a bill to extend Title 42 to continue to expel a majority of illegal immigrants.

The Center for Disease Control announced that Title 42 would end on May 23, which has been a large concern for Republicans and Democrats because of the massive number of illegal immigrants already crossing the border.

With the end of Title 42 goes any national security measures that we had at the border.

The bill states that there has to be a 60-day notice to the “appropriate authorizing and appropriating committees of Congress” to end a measure like Title 42 and a requirement that after 30-days, there will be a plan submitted to Congress to deal with an influx of illegal immigrants.

If the 30-day deadline isn’t met, the Surgeon General has 7 days to give notice of the plan and the suspension will begin 30-days after the plan is submitted. Not only does this extend Title 42 until after the May expiration date, but it gives Congress more power to control the CDC’s orders.

The bill doesn’t only include Republicans, but also Democrats Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), Jon Tester (D-MT), Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH).

Manchin called the move to end Title 42 “frightening” and all of the other Democrats have spoken out about it including Tester saying he was “strongly opposed” to ending Title 42 and Hassan saying that it “will likely lead to a migrant surge that the administration does not appear to be ready for.”

Kelly said, “The Biden administration was wrong to set an end date for Title 42 without a comprehensive plan in place.”

When Title 42 ends it’s going to be an invitation for anyone to come to the United States with almost no restrictions.

Luckily, there’s more unity from both parties opposing Biden’s administration. When Biden called for unity, he wasn’t looking for this.
