Swift’s Political Move Backfires as Support For Kamala Harris Draws Criticism

Taylor Swift’s recent political endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris has sparked a backlash, with a sharp decline in her popularity among Republican and independent voters. According to a new NBC News poll, Swift’s overall favorability dropped from 40% in 2023 to 33% this year, reflecting the negative reaction to her alignment with Harris.

The backlash has been particularly strong among Republicans, with nearly half—47%—now holding unfavorable views of Swift, up from 26% last year. Additionally, only 12% of Republicans have a positive opinion of her, down from 28%. This dramatic shift suggests that Swift’s endorsement of Harris, who has been heavily criticized for her handling of the border crisis and the fentanyl epidemic, has alienated many conservative fans.

Swift’s endorsement came after the first presidential debate, where Harris has tried to position herself as tough on issues like border security. However, her past record as border czar under President Joe Biden—where she failed to meaningfully address the growing crisis—has left many skeptical. Swift’s decision to publicly support Harris seems to have further complicated her image, especially among voters who blame Harris for worsening national security and drug-related deaths.

Among independents, Swift’s favorability has also seen a significant drop, falling from 34% in 2023 to 26% this year. Many in this critical voting bloc seem to be distancing themselves from Swift following her political endorsement, viewing her as more politically motivated than before.

Although Swift remains popular with Democrats, her favorability among them only saw a modest increase from 53% to 58%. This lukewarm response suggests that while Democrats may appreciate her support, it hasn’t generated the wave of enthusiasm that was likely intended.
