Texas AG Paxton Calls For Stricter Regulations After Uncovering Alleged ActBlue Fraud

Following a year-long investigation, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has petitioned the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to implement stricter regulations on political fundraising platforms like ActBlue. Paxton’s investigation into ActBlue, a Democratic Party donation platform, uncovered what he describes as widespread use of straw donations, where fraudulent transactions are made using another person’s identity.

Paxton’s office found that prepaid credit cards were being used to disguise the true identities of donors, a tactic he says allows bad actors to evade campaign finance laws. “Our investigation into ActBlue has uncovered facts indicating that bad actors can illegally interfere in American elections by disguising political donations,” Paxton said.

Although ActBlue added a new requirement for donors to provide CVV codes in August, Paxton insists this does not go far enough to address the issue. He has called for the FEC to take immediate action to prevent foreign money from entering U.S. elections and to close the loopholes uncovered by his investigation.

The FEC has yet to respond, but Paxton’s findings are raising concerns about the integrity of political donations and the potential for campaign finance violations.
