The Texas GOP is investigating claims that Democrats are conducting voter registration drives outside Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices and registering noncitizens to vote.
The allegations, first publicized by Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo, involve reports of registration tables being set up at multiple DMV locations in Weatherford and Fort Worth. Bartiromo’s post detailed long lines of immigrants seeking licenses, with Democrats allegedly registering them to vote on the spot without checking for citizenship.
Brady Gray, chairman of the Parker County Republican Party, expressed deep concern, stating that these activities could be part of a broader strategy to influence elections. He vowed to fully investigate the claims and warned that such actions could undermine the integrity of Texas elections.
Bo French, chairman of the Tarrant County GOP, called for immediate intervention from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R), Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R), and Attorney General Ken Paxton to prevent noncitizens from voting.
Paxton later issued a statement reiterating his commitment to safeguarding the state’s election process. He warned that his office would pursue all legal avenues to hold those involved in illegal voter registration accountable.
The controversy underscores Republican fears that Democrat-led voter registration efforts could be compromising the state’s election integrity at a time when concerns about illegal voting are at an all-time high.
