Trump Calls For Release of FBI Search Warrant And Related Documents

Former President Donald Trump says he supports the effort to unseal the search warrant which authorized the FBI’s raid of his Florida home on Monday.

In a statement released late Thursday, Trump called for the “immediate release” of all documents related to the FBI search of his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida. The former president also noted he was making his request despite the documents having been “drawn up by radical left Democrats and possible future political opponents.”

“Not only will I not oppose the release of documents related to the unAmerican, unwarranted, and unnecessary raid and break-in of my home in Palm Beach, Florida, Mar-a-Lago, I am going to take a step further by ENCOURAGING the immediate release of those documents, even though they have been drawn up by radical left Democrats and possible future political opponents, who have a strong and powerful vested interest in attacking me, much as they have done for the last 6 years,” Trump said in the statement.

The motion to unseal the search warrant and other documents related to the raid — including the list of items seized from Trump’s property — was filed by the U.S. Department of Justice on Thursday, after the department faced a wave of backlash for its decision to pursue the warrant.

Attorney General Merrick Garland, who admitted Thursday that he had “personally approved” the effort to obtain a search warrant against Trump, also said the federal court would likely honor its request to unseal the documents, “absent objection” from the former president.

On Friday, Trump also addressed the Washington Post report which cited an anonymous source who claimed that the FBI had searched his residence in order to find classified documents about nuclear weapons. In a Truth Social post, Trump said the weapons report was another “hoax” intended to do political harm.

“Nuclear weapons issue is a Hoax, just like Russia, Russia, Russia was a Hoax, two Impeachments were a Hoax, the Mueller investigation was a Hoax, and much more,” Trump wrote. “Same sleazy people involved. Why wouldn’t the FBI allow the inspection of areas at Mar-a-Lago with our lawyer’s [sic], or others, present … Planting information anyone?”

In addition to the DOJ’s motion to unseal the FBI search warrant, multiple media companies have filed a motion to release all the probable cause affidavits that were filed in support of the search warrant.
