Trump Shuts Down Harris In Fiery Debate: ‘I’m Talking Now’

In their first head-to-head debate for the 2024 presidential election, President Donald Trump delivered a sharp rebuke to Vice President Kamala Harris when she attempted to interrupt him. Trump, responding to a question from the moderators, was cut off by Harris, whose microphone was muted.

I’m talking now, if you don’t mind,” Trump firmly stated before adding, “Please. Does that sound familiar?” His remark echoed Harris’ words during the 2020 vice presidential debate against Mike Pence, where she famously said, “Mr. Vice President, I’m speaking.” Trump’s pointed comment left Harris momentarily stunned.

The debate, held at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, was moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis of ABC News. Both moderators faced criticism for what many saw as uneven fact-checking. While they interrupted Trump several times to challenge his statements, Harris’ claims went largely unchallenged. For example, when Trump highlighted Democrats like former Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam supporting extreme abortion measures, Davis interrupted to declare that no state allows post-birth abortion. However, Northam’s own words from 2019 had suggested support for such practices in certain cases.

Throughout the debate, Trump maintained a strong stance on key issues like border security and election integrity, accusing Harris of failing to deliver on promises during her time in office. He pressed her on her record, questioning, “Why hasn’t she done it? She’s been there for three and a half years.”

Though Harris was more measured than in past debates, she struggled to defend her performance as vice president. With both candidates trading barbs, the debate ended with Trump’s sharp closing remarks, emphasizing the lack of action from the current administration.
