Former President Donald Trump received high praise from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg after his bold reaction to an assassination attempt during a recent campaign rally.
On July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania, Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. Several bullets missed Trump’s head by inches, one even grazing his ear. Trump’s immediate response, standing up and shouting “fight, fight, fight” while bleeding, has garnered admiration both in the U.S. and globally. The incident also resulted in injuries to two attendees, and Corey Comperatore, a former fire chief, was fatally wounded protecting his family.
During an interview with Bloomberg News, Zuckerberg, 40, expressed admiration for Trump’s reaction. He described witnessing Trump’s response as one of the most impressive things he has ever seen, emphasizing the former president’s resilience and fighting spirit.
Trump was banned from Facebook and Instagram following the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot, but his accounts were reinstated two years later. Despite this, Zuckerberg, who had invested $400 million in liberal nonprofits for the 2020 election, stated he will not be endorsing any candidate in the 2024 election.
Zuckerberg highlighted a shift in Meta’s focus regarding political content. He noted that users prefer less political content on social media platforms, as they primarily use these services to connect with friends and family. “Meta is already recommending less political content to its users,” he told Bloomberg. “I think you’re going to see our services play less of a role in this election than they have in the past,” he added.
