Remember when Mitt Romney ran for President in 2012 against Barack Obama? He won the first debate and felt bad enough about it that he threw the subsequent ones. Like John McCain, he was beaten by Obama, who completed his second term in his largely successful bid to “fundamentally transform” this nation.
Maybe Romney was a sacrificial lamb the establishment needed to offer. And perhaps he knew it but playing that cynical game showed his true colors. Ah, those were the days.
In 2018, Mitt decided he had enough of retirement and wanted to become a Senator. He is now the poster child for Never Trumpers and Republicans in name Only (RINOs). And what a handsome 74-year-old salt and the pepper-haired pinnacle of the establishment he is.
What does he have left to accomplish now that he helped see Trump off after the 2020 election debacle?
Do not forget, Romney, entertained Trump’s overtures as a potential cabinet pick. Of course, Trump ingloriously turned him down. Then he requested Trump’s endorsement for Senate in Utah, his home state. Once elected, he turned on the President. He ran to the microphone faster than Chuck “You” Schumer to let everyone know how horrible the President was and how holier he was.
When given the opportunity he helped to construct, Romney voted to impeach President Trump. And after he failed to remove him for a phone call with Ukraine that had no direct witnesses and a case that provided zero evidence of high crimes and misdemeanors, he attacked him again. The second impeachment, on Trump’s way out the door, was an utter disgrace. This time the House did not even bother to investigate the facts or build a case and instead demanded that the Senate convict Trump for being in the same city while 500 attendees of his rally breached the Capital Building. This effort failed again.
Conservatives hate him because he is duplicitous!
As a politician Mitt Romney is ineffective. As a businessman and venture capitalist, he is subpar at best. As a member of the Harvard Business School and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) elite, he was advantaged but not truly educated.
Last month, Mitt Romney claimed that he and his new friends reduced a $3.5 trillion infrastructure bill to $1.2 trillion. All of which will tank our economy further and drive up inflation. It is like the car dealership giving you a deal on that Ferrari, dropping the price from $2 million to $1.1 million. What a deal! Romney was joining waffling Republican Senators Rob Portman (OH), Susan Collins (ME), Bill Cassidy (LA), Lisa Murkowski (AL), and the “moderate” Democrats Kyrsten Sinema (AZ), Joe Manchin (WV), Jeanne Shaheen (NH), Jon Tester (MN) and Mark Warner (VA). Kabuki dance theater commence.
Then he turned to the WWE in the Rose Garden, where Biden body slammed Romney for the other $2.3 trillion. He said he’ll use reconciliation to bleed our nation dry. And Romney submitted to the pin yelping that he trusts Joe Biden.
Romney messed up everything he touches. Except for the Winter Olympics, supposedly.
Instead of the Midas Touch, the “Romney Touch” is a mythical power to turn anything into ash.
