Denver Officials Ask Illegal Immigrants To Flee The City

Officials in Denver, Colorado, recently pleaded with illegal immigrants who arrived in the city to flee, offering them transportation to the Canadian border and other cities in the U.S.
Denver’s Newcomer Communications Liaison Andress Carrera, speaking before a crowd at a migrant shelter in the city, said, “The opportunities are over.”

“You don’t have to walk anywhere, we can buy you a free ticket,” Carrera told the unlawful migrants. “You can go to any city. We can take you up to the Canadian border, wherever!”

Carrera continued by claiming that the illegal immigrants would receive more benefits in cities like New York and Chicago.

“New York gives you more. Chicago gives you more,” the Denver official told the illegal immigrants in Spanish. “So, I suggest you go there where there is longer-term shelter. There are also more job opportunities there.”

Carrera emphasized the fact that Denver has taken in “too many” illegal immigrants and has exhausted all options.

“We have received too many migrants and that is why we ran out of resources,” Carrera continued. “Look, we are not going to block you if you want to stay here. I am not here to block you.”

The high-ranking Denver official warned the group that if they chose to stay in Denver, they would suffer. He then offered the illegal immigrants a ticket to any city or the Canadian border.

“If you stay here, you are going to suffer even more, and I don’t want to see this,” he said.
Carrera’s comments come after Denver Mayor Mike Johnston (D) announced budget cuts to city programs to cover the nearly $180 million the city paid to address the immigration crisis. The Democratic mayor even asked residents to house “newcomers” arriving.

In March 2024, Johnston thanked residents for their efforts in housing and feeding illegal immigrants arriving in Denver.

The Post Millennial pointed out Denver is a sanctuary city with 710,000 residents. Since 2022, the city has taken in nearly 40,000 illegal immigrants. Johnston has noted that the figure is the highest per capita among American cities. With unlawful immigration growing across the country, tent cities have increased across U.S. cities, such as Denver.
