A man in Indiana recently revealed that he shot an alleged burglar at a property he owns and then confronted a second burglar upon returning from a police station on the same day.
Alfred Burdine told WTHR-TV that he was getting ready for work on March 5, 2024, when he saw that an alleged burglar was trying to steal a generator from his property on North Forest Avenue in Indianapolis, Indiana.
“When I came around, I could see more of him. So, I parked right there, and I got out the car, and he was happy with the generator, walking off that way, and then, I walked up behind him, and then, I circled around him after I got his attention,” Burdine told the outlet.
Alfred Burdine says he shot a man burglarizing his home & detained him until IMPD got there. Burdine says the burglar cost him thousands of dollars in repairs. I spoke to him about the moment he came face-to-face with the man. That's on @WTHRcom at 11:00. pic.twitter.com/tM89SaAFgJ

Burdine said that he had his gun drawn on the alleged burglar, who reached into his pockets as if to pull out a weapon. Fearing for his life, Burdine fired on him.
“The possibility of him going violent at that time was pretty high. It’s 4:30 in the morning, nobody around. You’re bold enough to break into my garage, my house, you’re bold enough to do anything,” Burdine said. “I shot him in the leg to make him stop, and then, I made him lay on the ground until police came.”
Burdine eventually traveled to the police station and was questioned regarding the incident. After returning to his property, he was perplexed to find another burglar allegedly trying to steal from him.
The second burglar has been arrested by law enforcement, according to WTHR-TV.
“I don’t know what is going on. I think we just need more patrols because there are a lot of people with drug problems, and there is no treatment for them,” Burdine said, adding that since officials closed Central State Hospital in Indiana, there has been an increase in the number of people with mental issues roaming the streets.
“You got people with mental problems; you got drug addicts. Where do you take these people, even if they wanted some help?” Burdine wondered.
One of the alleged burglars was identified as Alfie Steadmon, 30.
