The Left’s Brazen Election Interference Displayed In Colorado

In Democrats’ latest efforts to interfere in the 2024 presidential election, Colorado election officials are in court trying to disbar former president Donald Trump from appearing on the state’s ballot in the forthcoming election.

Recently, arguments were heard in a Colorado court to determine the eligibility of using the 14th Amendment’s “insurrection” clause to prevent Trump from appearing on the Centennial State’s ballot in 2024.

In his opening arguments against the former president, an attorney representing Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics (CREW) in Washington, D.C., Eric Olson, said, “Trump incited a violent mob to attack our Capitol, to stop the peaceful transition of power.”

CREW is responsible for filing a lawsuit against Trump in the left’s latest efforts to remove the former president from the ballot in Colorado under the 14th Amendment, as reported by the Daily Wire.

The group cited Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which bars anyone from seeking political office who had previously taken an oath of office, then “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”

Colorado Democrats are centering their case against Trump on the unsubstantiated claim that the former president engaged in “insurrection” when he supposedly led a group of Capitol protesters on Jan. 6, 2021, to “breach” the legislative building.

On Jan. 6, 2021, Trump gave remarks on the Ellipse, saying, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”

The crucial point in Trump’s speech, where the then-president told thousands of his supporters to “peacefully make their voices heard,” is one that many Democrats, including the officials in Colorado, ignore because it doesn’t fit their political agenda.

This, along with many other claims made by Democrats about the events of Jan. 6, 2021, is false and is merely an argument used by the Democratic Party to go after President Joe Biden’s leading political opponent.

Trump’s legal team isn’t going quietly in the matter. One of the lawyers representing Trump, Scott Gessler, dismissed the claim that the then-president’s remarks were inflammatory and played a role in the left’s portrayal of the 2021 Capitol protests.

Gessler said that if Colorado officials successfully disbar Trump from the next election, a dangerous precedent would be set based on “legal theories that have never been embraced by a state or federal court.”

“People should be able to run for office and shouldn’t be punished for their speech,” Gessler told the court during his opening arguments, per the Daily Wire.
