A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed by the Gun Owners of America (GOA) has unearthed documents showing that the FBI “coordinated secretly with hospitals and medical centers to strip U.S. citizens of their rights to own, buy, or even use firearms,” according to a Tuesday report from the Washington Examiner.

This report comes just a few months after a different FOIA request from the GOA revealed information about a form used by the FBI to secure the forfeiture of Second Amendment rights. GOA filed this FOIA in response to a warning about this issue from Ammoland.com, a pro-Second Amendment outlet.

According to Breitbart News: “Ammoland.com warned of the FBI effort in 2019, after GOA discovered the ‘NICS Indices Self-Submission Form’ in December 2019. The form gave Americans the opportunity to ‘voluntarily’ give up their Second Amendment rights, allowing no means by which the forfeited rights could be resecured.”
This form was reportedly brought to the homes of some Americans by the FBI, where they presented them with the option of forfeiting their Second Amendment rights. At least 15 individuals signed these secret forms — which ask the signers to declare themselves as either a “danger” to themselves or others, or stipulate that they lack the “mental capacity adequately to contract or manage” their lives — between 2016 and 2019.
The latest FOIA found that the actions of the FBI were actually much worse than previously understood — as the Washington Examiner noted that the forms were also used in conjunction with some hospital stays.
“Facilities in New Hampshire, Delaware, Massachusetts, and Oklahoma, used the gun forms and supplied signatory records to the FBI,” the outlet wrote. “The forms are from 2011 and 2019, the year the FBI has said it discontinued their usage.”
An Oklahoma “medical professional,” who included their “state license number,” signed one of the forms in November 2011. That form was submitted to the FBI by “Oklahoma’s Northwest Center for Behavioral Health, a mental health clinic,” according to the Washington Examiner.
Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) has spoken out about the news, condemning the FBI for “weaponizing” their resources against the Second Amendment rights of Americans.
“Make no mistake — the FBI is weaponizing NICS forms to advance the Left’s dangerous agenda of dismantling our Second Amendment liberties and disarming our nation,” Clyde said. “Congress must thoroughly investigate this troubling matter and hold all unelected, anti-gun bureaucrats involved accountable for forcing Americans to relinquish their constitutional right to keep and bear arms.”
