A media network funded by billionaire George Soros is using a Nevada-based website to target President Donald Trump and other Republicans ahead of upcoming elections. Courier Newsroom, led by Democrat operative Tara McGowan, launched “The Nevadan” to spread political content disguised as local news. The outlet is heavily promoting Democrat candidates like Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Vice President Kamala Harris while attacking Republicans through a flood of social media ads.
Critics say Courier’s mission isn’t journalism but rather political manipulation. NewsGuard, a media rating organization, called it a “clandestine political operation” designed to mislead voters into believing they are consuming unbiased local news. Former Courier employees have even admitted that the network’s goal is to subtly push Democrat propaganda during election years.
One of The Nevadan’s false claims is that Trump would reinstate a military draft, a rumor Trump quickly shot down. The site’s content is heavily promoted on platforms like Facebook, where it reaches voters in crucial swing states.
Despite being clearly partisan, Courier managed to gain exemption from FEC financial disclosure rules by qualifying as a news organization. The network has received significant financial backing from Soros, who has reportedly funneled $20 million into the operation through his Open Society Foundations.
