Kamala Harris Backs Green Cards For Afghans As Vetting Failures Surface With ISIS Terror Plot Arrest

Vice President Kamala Harris has promised to provide green cards to tens of thousands of Afghan nationals brought to the US, despite increasing concerns over vetting failures. This pledge comes after Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, an Afghan refugee resettled in Oklahoma, was arrested for allegedly plotting an ISIS-inspired Election Day attack.

Harris has backed a Senate bill that would grant Afghan refugees permanent residency, even as federal reports reveal that many of those resettled were not properly vetted. The arrest of Tawhedi, who allegedly had ties to ISIS, has intensified scrutiny of the Biden-Harris administration’s resettlement process.

Republicans have expressed outrage over the security risks posed by unvetted Afghan refugees. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and other GOP lawmakers have called on the administration to disclose the number of Afghans resettled who were listed on federal terror watch lists.

A 2022 report from the Department of Homeland Security found that Afghans brought to the US during the withdrawal were not fully screened and could “pose a risk to national security.”

Despite these warnings, Harris is moving forward with her plan to provide a pathway to citizenship for the Afghan refugees, sparking concerns about how the administration will address the vetting issues that have already surfaced.
